The Streak Continues
The JC Hill Girls 3 Pitch team won Brant County again today
with a series of blowouts and one close call.
The pool play seemed like a warm up, as the girls won their first three games easily.
It seemed like batting practice, as they beat Brier Park 14-0.
Then they beat Glen Morris 15-0.
By the third game, we discovered that the mercy rule per inning
was actually 6 runs instead of 5, which led to our third victory being 18-0
over Onondaga-Brant.
Winning the pool put the team into the semi-finals against Banbury,
the team that won it last year when our girls weren't invited.
It was 6-6 in the top of the sixth and final inning.
Banbury had the bases loaded and none out!
Their best batter was up.
The pitch came and the batter made contact.
The back catcher, Bailey, made the catch on a foul ball.
The next two plays were force outs at the plate to end the inning.
J.C. Hill had last at bat on account of their pool record.
Jacy got on base with a single.
Then Bailey cranked one out to the field,
bringing in the winning RBI.
With the victory, JC Hill went to the finals against Burford.
Having the scare in the semis was enough to bring the team
back to their dominant nature, easily winning the final 30-9.
Way to go, girls. Nya:weh to coaches Mr. Hickey and Mr. Monture.
Wish I could have been there to see it all.

Boys Brant County Silver Medalists
Our Boys 3 Pitch team had an excellent outing on Thursday in the first day of the Brant County 3 Pitch Tournament. The first game against North Ward, the boys took some time getting the bats going, scoring 1 run in the first, 4 in the second, and finally hitting the mercy rule of 5 runs in the third inning. The 10-0 lead was enough to call the game after three innings.
Game two the Boys kept their bats going, scoring 5, 5 and 4 runs for another mercy rule victory over Cobblestone, 14-0.
In order to win their pool and obtain a bye to the Day 1 final game, the Boys needed a good outing against Ryerson. After a slow start and a 1-0 first inning, they got it in gear again, scoring enough runs to win game three, 10-2.
The plus minus margin of victory gave us a bye and an opportunity to watch our Oliver M. Smith-Kawenni:io friends play off in the division semi-finals against Oakland. Oakland took the game to six innings to earn a spot against us in the Day 1 final.
In the final against Oakland, it took a steady line up of consistent hitting from the top to the bottom of our order to build up a lead. Solid defence allowed our team to keep Oakland shut out as we accumulated runs each inning; two in the 1st, one in the 2nd, two in the 3rd and finally four in the 4th. After the bats stalled in the 5th, Oakland broke the shutout but we kept them at 1 to earn a 9-1 victory and our place in the Friday final.
Stay tuned for Friday's results!

Co-ed 3 Pitch Silver Medalists
Our J.C. Hill co-ed 3 Pitch team competed in a double knock out 3 Pitch Tournament today. Our first opponent was Emily C. General. The team got the bats going with in-field home runs from Jared (two), Jason and MacKenzie en route to an 8-0 victory. Kevin secured the shutout with an awesome "climb the ladder" catch.
Game 2 was against I.L. Thomas immediately following our first game. Our opponent got their bats working while our team quieted theirs, dropping the game 8-3 and making the rest of the day's games a must win.
Falling into the loser's bracket, we were pitted against ECG again. Jared got his 3rd home run of the day and the team played some good team defence when the bases were loaded to escape two error filled innings early in the game to knock ECG out of the tournament by a score of 8 to 3.
In our fourth game, Kevin got a big ovation from the crowd when he pedalled backwards to make an excellent catch. The rest of the team followed his lead by tightening up their defensive play, avenging the loss to I.L. Thomas by shutting them out 8 to 0.
In the final, J.C. Hill had a matchup against the undefeated Lloyd S. King juggernaut. LSK had won their first two games by scores of 20-0 and 20-2. Playing their third game and our fifth, the game started out with 3 up and 3 down from both teams in the first inning. The coaches knew it'd be a closer game than what LSK had against Kawenni:io and I.L. Thomas. After 5 innings, we couldn't recover from one error filled inning, losing the game 7 to 1.
Today we earned silver and we look forward to meeting LSK in the Brant County Boys tournament final on Friday.
