HSS Red & Black Day 2014

Our students enjoyed another Red & Black Day at Hagersville High School.  The cheers were loud and the face paint proud.  Here's some photos and videos from the day:

Wearing the Red and Black.

Dr. Science instructing his students.

His lessons are hair raising...wacka wacka.

Like MC Hammer said, You Can't Touch This!!

If Michael Jordan had hair.

Writing words of wisdom.

Drama statue game.

En guarde!!

Moulding the statue like putty in his hands.

Twin statues.

Mr. Johnson in familiar territory.

Wise words from a wise soul.

Barber shop class.

Last year's grade 8 students teach the new crop in Cayuga class.

Who knew a library would hold such interesting findings?

Aamisk asks, "What's this?" upon finding a box
that any child of the 80s would recognize in an instant.

Awesome photobomb on the new Mexican student.

Turner teaches them Native Studies.

Juan is happy to find some reading from his roots.

Terry Fox Hard Road

Here's something I put together using footage from the Terry Fox Foundation and music by the Sam Roberts Band.  I think it marries an amazing Canadian hero with an awesome Canadian rock song.  Terry Fox was such a hero and inspiration and Josh Trager from the Sam Roberts Band is a huge Terry Fox enthusiast, so I think this goes well together.  Enjoy, and maybe you will remember Terry Fox's heroism whenever you hear this song.

First Week of School

It is so nice to see our students back at J.C. Hill as they welcome the new students entering the school for the first time.  We look forward to an exciting year.  I've already heard from some students how great a new pool would be for a hot day like today.  Hopefully their parents decide to join our Home & School and plan to fundraise for such a wonderful idea!  Or we could just fill the halls with water and swim to class, like in the photo below.  Check the blog for upcoming news and information regarding our school, transition to high school, and pictures from our daily activities and special events.

Summer School

There are some excellent opportunities for students in grades 6, 7 and 8 to attend summer school this year.  For grades 6, 7 and 8 there will be a Literacy and Numeracy program, along with some arts and physical activity.  This will take place at the ILA (Iroquois Lacrosse Arena).

For grade 7 and 8 students there are Reach Ahead courses that allow students to obtain a high school credit before they even enter Grade 9.  Courses available include Business, Drama, Visual Art, Civics and Career Studies.

A package was given out today to interested students.  If you want to investigate the Summer School options yourself, you can visit the Grand Erie website for details.

Nya:weh to Mr. Montour for bringing this information to our attention.

Alice Through the Looking Glass

Here's some information about the play we are going to see at the Stratford Festival.  Congratulations to students selected by their homeroom teachers for their good attendance and/or dedication to school.

You will get your $10 deposit back on the day of the trip which you may use to purchase your lunch, or bring your own lunch and use the money for a souvenir.  If you think your lunch may cost more than $10, be sure to bring some extra money, just in case.
