Remembrance Day

Today the students from JC Hill and Jamieson schools went to Veteran's Park to honour the veterans.

There was the laying of the wreaths as well as the scattering of pine cones to represent the planting of peace and the teachings of the Great Tree of Peace wampum.

Nya:weh to Ms. Greene for planning and organizing all the other people who helped with the day's ceremony.  Ms. Greene even had three military aircraft fly over at the conclusion of the ceremony.  

It was a beautiful day and a nice way to pay respect to those who fought in the wars of the past and those who promote peace everyday through their kind words and actions.

Ms. Greene was kind enough to order a beautiful sunny day.

Assumption Lions Claim the Mascot

JC Hill blew away the competition at Assumption College's Grade 8 Day.

In three competitions, we earned the most points 

and came away with our own Assumption Lion.

Here, 5 students were able to represent the team and attempt to 

create the highest structure out of newspaper and masking tape.

We were probably the only team with our photos in the paper,

as the boys notice a picture of their championship team in the paper.

Our students won the Tug of War competition,

as well as the best dancing to the Cha Cha Slide 

(all those dances finally paid off!!!)

Our future ACS students demonstrated great leadership,

participation, spirit and cooperation today.

Jamieson Halloween Fun Night in JC Hill Gym Tonight!!!

High School Choices are IMPORTANT

Today was the due date for ALL Grade 8 students to submit their high school choices for 2015.  These forms were given out after the Native counselors' presentation last Thursday.  These included permission forms for the Grade 8 day on November 5th at ACS, BCI, HSS, MPSS, and PJCVS.  It is INTEGRAL that these forms be returned ASAP so that the transportation, food, and information can be planned for both the high schools and J.C. Hill.  If we do not receive the forms on time, then students may not be allowed to visit their first choice of high school.  This is an important part of learning about their chosen high school and discovering if it is the right fit for them BEFORE their grade 9 year.  Please speak with your child about this decision and return the form with BOTH sides filled out to your child's homeroom teacher, as soon as possible.  At this point we can not guarantee that your child will be able to go on the November 5th trip as the deadline has passed, but if you can get it in right away, we will do our best to make it happen.

Gus the Germ

An unwanted visitor came to speak with Jamieson and J.C. Hill students today. Gus the Germ told us all about how germs spread and how to prevent the spread of sickness. 

G.R.E.A.T. Grade 8s

Grade 8 students visited G.R.E.A.T. today for some career/job choosing workshops.

To Be the Champs, You Have to Beat the Champs

The JC Hill Girls Three Pitch team 

hosted the Brant County champions Banbury Heights 

to settle who is the best team in the area.

Staking themselves out to a 7-0 lead, the JC Hill Thunder

wrapped things up with a 7-3 victory to claim Brant County glory.

High School Information Night

Grand Erie District School Board's high school information night is upon us!!  Please come to the Six Nations Community Hall between 6pm and 8pm to learn about all the GEDSB high schools our students can attend.  Each school's counsellors will be there to answer your questions and share information about what their school(s) have to offer.

There will be students currently attending high school sharing their experience and words of advice.

Make the right choice by getting informed and choosing the school that best fits your interests and goals.  Students will be asked to make their 1st and 2nd choices for high school shortly after this evening's information session.  A form will be sent home in the next week or so.  We hope to see you there!

HSS Red & Black Day 2014

Terry Fox Hard Road

Here's something I put together using footage from the Terry Fox Foundation and music by the Sam Roberts Band.  I think it marries an amazing Canadian hero with an awesome Canadian rock song.  Terry Fox was such a hero and inspiration and Josh Trager from the Sam Roberts Band is a huge Terry Fox enthusiast, so I think this goes well together.  Enjoy, and maybe you will remember Terry Fox's heroism whenever you hear this song.

Red & Black Day

Permission forms went home on Friday to grade 8 students for this Friday's annual Red & Black day at Hagersville Secondary School.  Please remember to return them this week.

2013-2014 YEARBOOKS ARE IN

Yearbooks arrived yesterday for pick-up (Grade 8 Students in High School) that ordered last year.  Yearbooks are still for sale for a price of $25 dollars.  Only about 15 remain.  If you are interested in buying one come see Mr. Hickey.

First Week of School

It is so nice to see our students back at J.C. Hill as they welcome the new students entering the school for the first time.  We look forward to an exciting year.  I've already heard from some students how great a new pool would be for a hot day like today.  Hopefully their parents decide to join our Home & School and plan to fundraise for such a wonderful idea!  Or we could just fill the halls with water and swim to class, like in the photo below.  Check the blog for upcoming news and information regarding our school, transition to high school, and pictures from our daily activities and special events.
